Year 12 Reading Champions volunteer to work in the community at Harefield Infants School
Celebrating Roald Dahl Charity readathon day at Harefield Infant School, Harefield Academy Year 12 students Mitchell Adams, Cai Antoine, Alisha Miller, Courtney Salisbury, Jessica Walsh, Iago Severo, Hannah Wood, Rebecca Woolterton, Amy Grimshaw and Grace Flatman all volunteered to support with paired reading to support our friends in the community.
The school held a charity day to celebrate the work of Roald Dahl and support the charity through dressing up as characters from his books. Our Year 12s were engaged in reading activities in all classes in the infants from Reception up to Year 2 and assisted teachers in signing reading records as well as making lots of new friends!
Roald Dahl’s Dahlicious Dress Up Day raises money for the Marvellous Children’s Charity as well as encouraging engagement with literacy and reading for enjoyment.
Year 12s thoroughly enjoyed their day and are looking forward to working with Harefield Infant and Junior Schools in the future to support literacy and growth through community work with local children.
Amanda Gordon, Assistant Principal at The Harefield Academy said: “I am proud and impressed with our Year 12s and their commitment and hard work undertaken and we look forward to working with local schools to support with literacy as well as supporting Year 7s in The Academy with our own paired reading programme which takes place in tutor time each morning which the Year 12s coordinate.”
