Care for our World
The theme for Grey-Thompson House was sustainability, how do we look after the world we live in?
Monday - Students viewed a short documentary about a town in Brazil that had addressed the issue of sustainability and caring for their community. After a short discussion on any similarities to London, the students completed workshops which looked at 5 different areas, such as renewable energy, water shortages and recycling. In the afternoon, students were given a brief to design and make a model reflecting one of the areas they had studied in the morning.
Tuesday - The problem of urbanisation in the developing world was considered, watching a film which featured the problem of overcrowding and inequality. In contrast in the afternoon, Grey-Thompson challenged Coe House to a game of rounders!
Wednesday - Students walked across country to Hillingdon Recycling plant and learnt about how the council recycled our rubbish. Above you can see students climbing the style on our walk to the depot.
Thursday - We went to Whipsnade Zoo where we looked at the conservation programmes.
Friday - We wrote letters to the Zoo explaining what we liked and how we felt areas could be improved further followed by the last activity of the week which was a drama workshop where we dramatized some of the important issues that we had looked at through the week.
