The Mayor of London - Boris Johnson

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, attended the official opening of the temporary pool set up on the MUGA at The Harefield Academy to provide swimming support to students in Years 7, 8 and 9 and the local community.

Adam Whitehead, Olympian and former Commonwealth and European champion, also attended the opening following a talk to students in The Academy Theatre.

As well as supporting students at The Academy, the pool, which has been in use since early January, offers swimming lessons in the evenings, on a Saturday and only costs £1 fo both adults and children.

The pool is part of the Make a Splash programme run by Total Swimming and supported by the Amateur Swimming Association and encourages children to get involved and give swimming a go. The programme is part of the Mayor of London's £25m Sports Legacy Fund.
