The Harefield Academy table tennis squad dominated proceedings at the recent West London Schools Championships, sweeping away competition in the boys U13, U16, U19 and Girls U13 and U16.

 

U16 Boys 'Current National School's Title Holders' came through their group, which included Wembley High and Capital City Academy, both extremely strong competition. The boys had to bring everything to the table as Danny Lewis was unable to compete, 'a sudden Flu attack'. This did not deter mighty Mitchell who moved up into third position in the team. Mitchell remained undefeated throughout the day, extra credit was due as Mitchell was feeling slightly under the weather too.

Tyrone Wells equalled Mitchell's 100 per cent record which included beating a much higher ranked William Morias in the process. Baiden Thoroughgood deserves the glory for beating William first and bagged the win of his career, securing victory over West London Academy in the final in a convincing manner and stamping their mark on a possible second national title. But first they must get through the next round London finals

 

U16, girls walked in with nothing, did nothing and walked out with something 'GOLD' and qualified into the London finals. This was because the girls had no competition literally, as both opposing teams were a no show. We now hope they will be able to show off their skills in the next round.

 

U13, boys had a roller coaster ride against Capital City Academy. At 3-4 down they seemed down and out but Michael Gillett saved the day winning his final match 3-0. Enabling Harefield to finish the ride on a high and come through as the eventual winners on count back. There was some great team spirit on show from Alex Cleary, Myles Antony and Andrew McCorckell to take the team to the final and to also qualify into the London Finals.

 

U13, girls showed how they are a force to be reckoned with in the near future. Just losing out on count back in the final, against West London Academy. Including Rebecca Woolterton, Kelsey Toner and sister act Aideen and Dianne Mchugh all put in a superb performance to reach the final and qualify into the London Schools final.

 

A clear spread of talent in table tennis at The Harefield Academy is set to provide more winning results across the board in the near future as all the team will now prepare for the London Schools Final.
