Huge Turnout for Prospective Parents'' Evening!

Hundreds of prospective parents flooded The Harefield Academy last night to find out more about The Academy following our successful OFSTED Inspection in July 2011. Year 7 students, Harry Wilcox and Eve Middleton, said it all in their opening speeches during the Principal’s talks.

“My name is Harry Wilcox and this is Eve Middleton. We are in Year 7 and we would like to share with you our feelings and experiences of The Harefield Academy over the past few weeks. I know exactly how you are feeling – I was sitting just where you are last year thinking about so many things such as….what exactly is life like at The Harefield Academy? Well, now is my chance to help you, as we all will, so you can make up your own minds. On 7th September 2011, we joined The Harefield Academy. We worked with the Y11s and they made us feel really welcome and told us all about the things we can do at The Academy. We were sorted into our PL groups (our Personalised Learning groups) and were asked to work with the Y11s on different activities, which helped us get to know each other. We then started lessons and, before I knew it, my first day had finished. The next day the rest of The Academy joined us. As you will know from walking around the building, we have a great place to learn in with lots of computers and great food. I am being very serious when I say this – it really has the best food I’ve eaten in a school. Please try some when you visit the Café. I’d like to tell you about the subjects we study here. In Year 7 we have English, Maths, Science, ICT and Life Skills (which is when we look at the world around us), Geography, History, RE, Art, Drama, Dance, Music and, wait for it……. Sport. Thank you for listening and now I’d like to introduce Eve Middleton…”

“Thank you Harry. I can’t believe I’ve nearly finished my first five weeks at The Harefield Academy. It has gone by so quickly! Now let me carry on from where Harry finished. Let me tell you about sports – we do so much: football, cricket, netball, gymnastics, table tennis, tennis, basketball, ice skating and many more. There are lots of after school clubs to join that you won’t want to leave! You will definitely love it here as everyone is so friendly and we have great teachers. Mind you, they do work us hard so that we can achieve more and reach our goals. However, we also play hard. We win at a lot of sport events. There are drama and music productions such as the Christmas Cracker and Grease planned for later this year. There are many trips you can go on such as Geography Field trips, History Battle Fields trip, Art Exhibitions, Theatre productions and so much more. You can become a Hero (helping others); a Peer Mentor (listening to others) and you can also represent the students on our Student Voice. I could go on, but I don’t have enough time! To sum it all up…..we work hard because we want to do well. That’s it. I want to do well so that I can be in charge of what I want to do! All I can say is: you can experience it all yourself! And for anyone in your family, you’re all welcome at The Harefield Academy. Take it from us – your children are in good hands! Thank you for listening.”
