Powerful Pool Performance
Before Christmas Daniel Brennand entered the Winter Hillingdon Open Meet and certainly made his mark! Daniel (Year 8) produced one personal best performance after another and was rewarded with an impressive array of medals. He won gold in both the 50m and 100m backstroke, silver in the 50m butterfly, 50m breaststroke, 200m backstroke and 200m freestyle and added bronze in the 50m freestyle.

Spurred on by this performance, Daniel went on to compete in the Derby Open Meet on 14 and 15 January. He swam the 50m breaststroke in 39.57 secs, an improvement of 0.5 secs on the time he swam at the Hillingdon Meet in December. Although he maintained his best time in the 50m freestyle he just could not improve his previous personal best in the 100m backstroke and, according to Daniel, was probably because he had eaten too much for breakfast!
Refreshed on the Sunday and with a lighter breakfast of cornflakes, scrambled egg and toast and orange juice, he set about the individual medley and swam a time of 2mins 39.04 secs, a huge 7 second improvement on his previous best. Daniel is currently the fastest 12 year old in the country for the 50m backstroke and also managed to improve his personal best with a time of 32.14 secs.
It’s amazing what you can do on a lighter breakfast!
Well done Daniel!
