MEET OUR STUDENTS: George Davey

George is a Year 10 student who joined The Harefield Academy in Year 7 as a gifted sports person. Since then he has developed into a true all-rounder, turning his hand to most sports.

We caught up with him to find out a little more about his achievements and plans for the future.

On Sport…
“I think I must have been playing sport in one form or another all my life. I just love it!
I like being with my friends and having to take responsibility for organising training and discussing the selection of teams with staff. Last year I was appointed Year 9 captain for the football team, a position I really enjoyed because you’re respected and people listen and look up to you.”

“I enjoy most sports and play cricket, football and golf to a reasonable level. Last year I did well throwing the discus in the Borough sports where I broke the record, and went through to the County Championships. Unfortunately, I was injured for The Academy Sports Day and was unable to take part. This was a big disappointment to me as I know I would have done well and wanted to hold the school record, maybe next year!”

On His Achievements:
“My highlight so far must be captaining the Year 9 football team last year and winning the Middlesex Cup. I really felt proud of the team and what we had been able to achieve. This year we want to do as well and even possibly win the English Schools – that would be really great!”

On the Future…
“With regards my future, I would like to have a career in sport and therefore know that I need to be focused in lessons and want to achieve high grades. The two things go together - education and sport. One may be more enjoyable than the other but they are both so important if you are going to be really successful.”
