Academy Allotment Wins Prizes
A giant pumpkin from The Harefield Academy allotment won the top prize for the heaviest pumpkin at the prestigious village Autumn Horticultural show last month, weighing in at a massive 28lbs.
The allotment, which is looked after by students in the Inclusion centre at The Academy is bursting with a large variety of fruit and vegetables, and is carefully looked after all-year round.
The high-quality produce from the allotment also won 2nd place in the highly contested 'Selection of Vegetables' category at the show, beating lots of seasoned vegetable growers!
Students work hard on the allotment to gain their City and Guilds and NVQ1 in Horticulture, learning essential skills in a wide variety of gardening and horticulture.

Inclusion teacher, Louise Dunton, said: "I was so proud that the students' pumpkin won the prize, it was really nice for them to get recognition for their hardwork." She added: "It's been a bumper year for the allotment, with lots of really amazing produce, from peas, to sweetcorn and butternut squash."
