What''s it like to be in Annie?
The Harefield Academy's 2010 performance of 'Annie' filled the theatre for three consecutive nights, and now looking back to months of rehearsals, panic, learning lines and show-stopping performances, the teachers and students involved in the show reflect on what it was like to be in 'Annie'.
It was a long and rewarding process for all involved. The first 'Annie' auditions were held on the 17th of September 2009 with over 50 students auditioning. The students had to take part in a dance class, drama sketch and sing a solo and duet.
Assistant Principal for Visual & Performing Arts, Mrs Williams said:
"A great memory for me would be the amount of younger students in the production, particularly Year 7 and 8s who showed real dedication and commitment to the rehearsals and performances and what a bright future they will have performing in The Academy over the next few years."
The Academy Principal, Mrs Gadd, commented on the success of the production:
“There is nothing more inspiring than to be part of a (packed) audience and be entertained by enthusiastic and talented young people. The afternoon and three evening performances lifted the spirits of everyone – young and old. Congratulations to everyone involved!”
Here's what some of the 'Annie' cast thought about being on the stage....
| Annie (Elena Keeley) | "I liked playing Annie because it is fun and you get to do the things you like (sing, dance and act). Annie is a fiery character and she will say what she thinks. I think in some ways I’m like Annie, although I don’t have curly ginger hair ha ha ha. My favourite scene in the play is when we perform the “Hooverville” song because that is the song where I have “Sandy” the adorable dog that is called Audrey. The song is quite catchy and sounds in a way Ominous." |  |

President Roosevelt (Jordan Sprague) | "During rehearsals we have so much fun and we have a laugh but in the end we get the job done. I am there most of the time and enjoy every moment even when I'm not acting. The other actors are brilliant. Elena is fun and Joel and the whole cast are so much fun. Mrs Robinson is a brilliant singing teacher and Mrs Williams is a great choreographer and Mr Armstong is brilliant on the piano. I hope to be in the next show and maybe have a bigger part." |  |

July (Niamh Lovejoy-Thurley) | "Being in 'Annie', is very time consuming, but apart from that it is very good. My favourite bits about being in 'Annie', is that you get to sing and act. The one thing that I would be scared about is acting in front of the audience, as I get very nervous." |
