Wicked Modern Dance Workshops

Dance students at The Academy have been treated to a selection of modern dance workshops during the term. Mrs Williams organised two excting workshops for students in June and July.

The first was on Wednesday 23rd June after 40 gifted and talented Key Stage 3 students went to the West End to see the production of Wicked. The students loved the matinee performance with the colourful costumes, amazing singing and acting and an interesting storyline leading up to the well known story of Wizard of Oz. They came away from the performance very inspired and enthused about the whole show.

The following day Alex Bird, a member of the Wicked cast visited The Academy and lead three dance workshops to Year 7 students, teaching them an extract from the show. The students took part with interest and enthusiasm.

Alex also met with our Year 10 Performing Arts students and held an open Q & A session about being a West End performer. Alex really encouraged the students throughout the day to aim high and reach their goals as a dancer or singer or actor and the students enjoyed the opportunity to see the show and work closely with a West End Star!

The following week on Thursday 1st July Anton Streeks-Henry, a member of the successful street dance crew, Peridot, came to The Harefield Academy to deliver five modern street dance workshops to students.

Peridot got to the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent in 2010 and the Year 7 dance students had the opportunity to learn a street dance routine to the Black Eyed Peas and Michael Jackson taught by Anton.

The students enjoyed working with him to learn the dances and watching him dance. All students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and remained focused and enthusiastic throughout the sessions.
