Olympian Denise Lewis Drops In To The Academy

Olympic gold medallist Denise Lewis visited The Harefield Academy to speak about her career and passion for sport to our students. Lewis House presented a special assembly to the golden heptathlete, who answered questions fielded from her House and some of our elite athletes.
The British athlete, who won the heptathlon at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, participated in a range of activities throughout the day, including taking part in a Year 8 PE class and a question and answer session with some of our elite sport students. Denise admitted, on numerous occasions, during her morning with us that she was 'green with envy' that she couldn't attend The Academy.
The Youth Sport Trust School Sport Ambassador added “The sporting journey for many Olympians and Paralympians begins at school and it's a crucial time for any young athlete’s development as they learn to balance training and competition with the other pressures associated with teenage life. I faced many challenges during my sporting career and the support of others was vital in helping me realise my dream. I am pleased to see young people at The Harefield Academy succeeding in an environment that strives to bring out the best in them, whatever their goals are."
