You Need:

5 GCSE grades A*- C which include Science and English Language.
A high level of sporting ability is an advantage,
but not essential.

One year AS course leading to A2 in 2 years
Method of Assessment:

AS: 70% written examination
30% practical and portfolio
A2: 70% written examination
30% assessment in two sports + performance analysis

 

Course Description:
The aims of this subject are to encourage you to:
• Develop an understanding of the factors influencing performance and the ability to apply these to a  range of physical activities
• Develop knowledge and skills of selected physical activities
• Develop the skills necessary to analyse, evaluate and improve performance
• Develop an appreciation of social, moral and cultural issues which affect participation and performance in physical activity

In addition in Year 13, should you choose to continue with the subject, you will:
• Develop the capacity to think critically about the relationships between the different factors influencing performance
• Develop a capacity to explain current provision for participation in physical activity in the context of social issues and global trends

   

Course can lead to:
• The study of sport in higher education
• It provides an excellent foundation for students intending to pursue
careers in teaching, coaching, sports development, the leisure industry,
the health and fitness industry and professional sport.
