English School Cup - Year 7

YEAR 7 Football Report February 2008

The year 7 Football team has been going from strength to strength in the English Schools Cup. They had a bye in the first round and then played Sir John Lawes and won with a frenzy of goals. The final score was 11-0! (18.10.07)
In the third round they played Jewish Free School and went a goal down within a few mintues. They showed excellent control and determination scoring 11 goals again!! The final score was 11-4. (20.11.07)
Their fourth round competition came from John Hampden School. They played on a very big and muddy pitch. The players found it hard work to keep their footing and what turned out to be a physical game. Many players picked up injuries and some were even ill 5 minutes before the game. However they played well as a team and won 4-1. (13.12.07)
Round 5 was a local match, playing St Joan of Arc Catholic School, Rickmansworth. A flat but slightly waterlogged pitch played to the boys advantage as they passed the ball effortlessly at times. Joan of Arc had many chances and just couldn’t convert as Harefield slotted 4 past their keeper. Final score 4-0. (14.01.08)
The year 7 team at this point were fast becoming a team showing talent and conviction. Round 6 was against their toughest opponent, Queens School. The game was physical and fast paced. Many of their shots whistled past our cross bar. The lead was secured early with two goals in the first half. This half-time score should have been three but a penalty was missed. Queens were fighting back and scored towards the middle of the second half. The boys worked and worked to cut their advances out and the score line was held for a 2-1 victory. (29.01.08)
They now advance to the 7th round where they will play either Gunnersbury School in Brentford or Raynes Park High School in Merton. There are only 16 teams left in the competition out of the 1000 that entered!

Year 7 Football Report 12th March 2008

On February 28th 2008 the year 7 Football team played Gunnersbury School in the 7th round of the English Schools Cup. The match was played at Harefield United pitch and was always set to be a close match.

Both teams had chances within the first ten minutes, with Gunnersbury’s shots whistling past our goal. We had some great attacks on goal but just could not finish. As the game continued in the second half we again had many one on one attacks and found nothing but the goalie! The pitch was very large for year 7 players and by the end both teams were very tired. The score was 0-0 at full time and extra time ensued.

In extra time Gunnersbury played very well and unfortunately managed to score 3 goals. This produced a score line that didn’t reflect how close and tiring the match was. The whole team was very disappointed after so much effort had been made.

Congratulation to our year 7 Football team who in their first year at The Academy made it to the last 16 in the country! Out of over 1000 schools that entered this is a fantastic achievement.
