OCR Level 3 ICT
Why Should I Study This Subject?
The OCR Cambridge Technicals in IT Level 3 offer students a more in-depth look at ICT in the modern workplace, and give an insight into its role in specialist careers. As an alternative to Applied GCE, or similar exam-based courses, these qualifications provide on-going learning and assessment of the practical skills and knowledge required to succeed in ICT-related careers.
What Will I Study?
Most students will complete the Certificate over 2 years which is equivalent to 1 A level. The qualification is made up of 2 compulsory units and 4 optional units. Students may also work for 3 units over 1 year to achieve an AS level equivalent.
Compulsory Units:
Unit 1 – Communication and employability skills in IT – provides an understanding of the skills an employer wants.
Unit 2 – Information systems – how to make use of information held in the workplace.
Optional units
Website product ion – plan and create a website using Dreamweaver
Web animation – create an interactive animation that is devised to be delivered over the web.
Computer animation – understand the different types of animation and their uses
Spread sheet modelling – learn to use spread sheets to solve complex problems
Organisational Systems security – understand the importance of securing organisational IT systems.
E-commerce – learn about the technologies and the impact of e-commerce
How Will it be Assessed?
100% coursework- moderated on site by an external moderator

What Can I do Next?
Many professions require the skills acquired on this course. The subject specific knowledge will be a sound basis for many specialised careers and further education courses in ICT.
What Grades Will I Need?
8 GCSE grades A*- C with good grades in English Language and Mathematics. No ICT qualification is required but a good knowledge and understanding of ICT processes is preferred.
