Year 7 Cricket Team are Middlesex Champions
Having only played one match prior to this tournament, the Year 7 cricket team were triumphant and won this prestigious event, which was held at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Thursday 1 May 2008.
Lord’s Cricket Ground was the venue for the Middlesex Inter Cricket competition this year sponsored by Nat West bank. This variation of the game of cricket was developed to bridge the gap between Kwik Cricket and the traditional hard ball game and increase levels of participation particularly amongst 12 — 14 year olds.
During the Middlesex Inter Cricket competition last Thursday, the boys were given a tour of Lord’s and sat in the media box overlooking this hallowed ground. Having won through to the final, the Year 7 boys were faced with a tough match against Haydon. However, The Harefield Academy’s superior fielding led to the team’s success. Congratulations must go not only to the team but also to two of Harefield Cricket Club’s coaches, Pete Dixon and Syke Nkala who have supported the boys in their development of the game.
Apart from winning medals and a trophy for their efforts, the boys will now play a demonstration game at Lord’s during the lunch break, at the forthcoming test match between England and New Zealand on 15 May 2008.
