Benefits for Everyone
|
The project is intended to make Harefield Academy an important asset for the village, dedicated to the community it serves.
The Academy's specialism in sport, sports science and health, and the design of the Academy's facilities reflects this. The overall design of the buildings meet the requirements for development in the Green Belt.
The vision for the Academy has three strands that build on the provision of a broad and balanced core curriculum for students: -
'Sport plus'
A rich physical education and after-school curriculum for all students and the local community to maximise the citizenship, health and lifelong learning benefits of learning through sport, and to provide access to specialist and pre-vocational qualifications in coaching, sports science and related areas including media, leisure and hospitality. There will be specific support programmes for gifted and talented athletes in a wide range of sports offered to students on the roll and those from neighbouring schools;
'School plus'
A strong programme of support for family learning and adult education to secure multi-generational engagement of local families, especially those previously excluded from educational achievement and high value employment, linked to involvement in constructive leisure, informal learning and engagement in active citizenship;
'Health plus'
Engagement of the whole school community in constructive leisure and sport to tackle health difficulties through the creation of a school which promotes social cohesion, expectations and attainment and promotes individual and social well-being.
