School Closure for all students from 1pm today
Further to the earlier message on our website, regarding the partial closure of The Academy for Years 7, 8 and 9, we regret to inform parents and carers that we will now need to close The Academy to students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 as of 1pm today. All parents and carers have been advised via email. The decision to keep the school open for Years 10 – 13 was made with the learning and progress of exam classes in mind, however our access to water has decreased as a result of ongoing reparations to the water pipe this morning. We appreciate that there may be further inconvenience caused by this and we would like to express our apologies for this situation that is entirely out of our control.
The problem we have encountered is a substantial pipe that burst and flooded part of the site. We were able to safely close off this area but in order to fix the problem it will now be necessary to further isolate water supplies for a period of around 8-10 hours meaning we will have no water supply in that time. The latest this work can commence in order to try and ensure the site is fully operational for all students tomorrow and that we avoid flood risks is 1pm. I am sure you will appreciate we have done all we can to work around this problem but we are unable to remain open whilst there is no water supply at all.
Students will be permitted to leave school at the end of Period 4 at 12.40pm today and there will be food available for students in the Café up until 1pm. If there is difficulty with your children travelling home, please contact the Student Managers or Standards and Achievement Leaders to discuss.
The Sixth Form Open Evening from 6-8pm tonight will go ahead as planned.
Please check our website tomorrow morning where we will post an update. We anticipate this will confirm that we are open as normal tomorrow.
