Lauren Caswell Year 10 presents her batik.

Year 10 Art students were treated to a batik workshop, led by textile designer Liz Eugene on Monday 15th June.

They learned about the ancient practice of batik, producing a design and transferring it to fabric using hot wax. Students then applied inks and fabric paints, blending the colours together. Once the paint was dry they ironed the fabric, removing the wax and showing their original design in stark white against the strong bright colours of the paints.

You can see the two practice rounds and final piece with analysis that the students presented to the group in the picture featured above.
